New FTC Guidelines for Bloggers and How It Affect My Posts

Just wanted to alert all my readers to the new changes implemented by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). You can read them here, or if you want the condensed version and what it actually means you can read Carleen's post here.  Carleen is the owner of Beauty and Fashion Tech.com and an attorney, so if you blog...I would strongly suggest you read her post.

I've still got to figure out how I am personally going to handle this.  You may see me say in the very first sentence if I received free product for review or if I purchased it.  I may make some kind of little icons...just not sure yet.  I have always (if I remembered or after I knew I was suppose to) disclosed if I received free product at the bottom of each post and also directed it back to my disclosures page, but that's just not enough any more for the FTC. You may even see me say it several times through out my post.  If it's a paid or sponsored ad, you will also know that from the very beginning, it's not going to be pretty, but I will comply.  Sadly, print media does not have to follow the same guidelines :(

You will notice that on my tweets, pins and Facebook posts that I will also tell you first if I received free samples.  If I ever get around to YouTube, you will hear it there too.

I have a few more updates for you that I will fit in between my posts, one of them is very exciting! Stay tuned :) and pass this on to any of your blogger friends in case they haven't heard yet.

  1. Thx for the link to read about the new rules - I had seen mention of changes and went to Google it and only pulled up old ones. What really ticks me off as a reader of polish blogs is when the free items are sold in blog sales by the blogger. That really really gets me going. Use free for a drawing but don't sell them folks! I think some of this new rules is odd but I need time to think about it - I just read the condensed version.
